Start up applications, how to set it up? (Using Maverick)

Avatar Georgia Cheer
Hi all, a simple question I believe though my mind doesn't remember the method. I wish to make it so that the calculator application that comes with the iMac starts up automatically when I turn on my computer. I use it a lot. Can you remind me how to do this? I think I put an alias into some folder, but can't remember now.
Thank you

This is how I would do it

from the Apple Icon - top left of the screen select System Preferences

Then select
User & Groups
Then select
Login Items
Then press the + sign to show the applications in your Application folder
Then select the apps you want to start at start up time
Then close the User and Groups and shut down the machine and test

If you open it and then right click on it in the dock and go to the options menu you will see open at login click on that and it will open at login
