NAS Update

Avatar Rick Churchill
Once upon a time long, long ago I gave a talk on my Network Attached Storage. This is an update:
I installed 3 off 4TB hard discs which gave me, with redundancy, 8TB of storage. I thought this sufficient for the backup of my 1TB MacBook with my documents and 5TB PC with all my photos and video. However over the year my NAS has also filled up with Snapshots which are copies which the NAS itself makes of its stored data which the website states are more efficient than backups. As a result I have decided to double the capacity to 3 off 8TB discs.
Not content with these snapshots I have made a copy of the more stable files like video on one of the spare 3.5 inch 4TB discs in a hard disc enclosure and the other files on a 2.5 inch 4TB USB powered hard disc once a month. I’m not sure what to do with the spare 4TB drives!
So if you are thinking of buying a NAS perhaps you should think about doubling the size of your estimated capacity requirements.
