Preserving my landline number

Avatar Richard I
Perhaps surprisingly, we still use our landline -albeit infrequently. Our broadband provider gives us voice over IP but it’s not particularly cheap. Does anybody know of any independent companies that provide VoiceOver IP at a modest price, who would accept our existing number?
Thanks, Richard

Richard, I really hoped you would get a helpful answer on this. We don’t want to give up our landline either so, along with many others I would think, will be faced with a similar dilemma before too long.

We're with Vodafone who don't charge us for the VOIP line but we pay £10 per month for unlimited landline and mobile calls using our old landline number but you don't have to take this out. I'm not aware of any 3rd party VOIP providers providing a free or cheap service - they are usually linked in with a fibre provider. I know TOOB put you on to another company who charged £7 pm if I remember correctly. I suspect you would have too change to the fibre company they work with - another obstacle!
