I'm not overly excited by liquid glass. The big news for me is the windowing and menus on the iPad. Glad to see they're improving the iPad rather than "dumbing down" the Mac to bring them both more in line!
I haven't upgraded my iPhone 11 to IOS 26. When I went to Software Update it offered me iOS 18.7 then at the bottom of the page ALSO AVAILABLE "Upgrade to iOS 26".
I wondered whether it was advising me that for such an old phone iOS 26 was not recommended. Why else should it offer this as an option?
Like Doug, I was offered both and the iOS 26 option was right at the bottom of the display; on my iPad (M2 Pro so perfectly capable) it was scrolled out of sight. I think it's just a poor layout.
Reasons to upgrade: security fixes, other enhancements and fixes. OTOH, I don't think you'll get any of the AI stuff as you don't have sufficient compute (rumours say you need 8GB+ of RAM, I don't think anything pre-iPhone 15 Pro has that).
If Apple says it's OK then I think the worst that could happen is that your phone becomes a little slower* so I'd go for it.
*All phones will temporarily be a little slower and heavier on battery immediately after an OS update because there's a lot of indexing and updating of data going on.
Ok. I’ve taken the plunge and upgraded my iPad. As long as that doesn’t show up any concerns, I’ll probably do my phone in a day or two. Thanks for your help.
It runs fine on my 2020 iPhone SE series 2 BUT, because of its small screen (4.9" I think) stuff is now being hidden by window "furniture" and it's sometimes difficult to scroll the bit you want to see into view. Having said that, I think the smallest screen currently available is 6.1" on the 16e. Maybe after five years I should bite the bullet and get something newer!
