Coffee spillage---resolved I hope

Avatar John Nicholas
My wife "had" a late 2012 MacBook Pro on which she spilled a small amount of non-sugared coffee ( a couple of mouthfuls, less than a 1/4 cup) . Quickly turned off, mopped up (but saw some liquid disappear down below through the keys), opened and turned upside down V shaped, and air dried.

Regrettably even after sufficient time, it will not fire up despite battery being close to 100%........Duh.

She is not an avid computer user but likes independence from my iMac, so she hasn't got any meaty data on the machine, mainly emails and letters so if that's lost so be it. Given the lack of important data, she had thought she didn't want to bother with an external HD back-up !

Have been lucky to acquire a newer Macbook though, so generally it's onwards and upwards.....family peace restored.

Have taken HD out of the former laptop but gather I need buy/borrow/have access to an "Enclosure" to enable transfer from old freestanding 2.5" SSD to the newer laptop ? It's really really not worth the hassle or expense or time doing much, and certainly not worth going to Apple or even a local computer shop.

Do I now smash the HD......... or would anybody at a meeting have the "kit" to achieve a data transfer before I do so?

When I wrote about an "enclosure", I didn't know what this involved or how cheaply they can be obtained under £10) on that all consuming "site" which is gradually putting other retailers out of business (amazon). It appears to be a box designed to accept the SSD with suitable internal mating connections plus a USB cable.

Actually a friend of a near neighbour now is loaning me one in the next couple of days.

So thank you anybody who already has read about my dilemma and possible request for help, but fingers crossed I MAY be sorted.

So, until I get into a pickle...... this post is CLOSED.
