Update Problem

Avatar Roy Rainford
Am trying to help a friend who says: "when trying to install an update to Monterey version 12.2.1 the message is: “in order to continue installing update, you need to be an owner”. Can anyone suggest the action to take please?
Yes I will ask the person concerned to join this group but her personal circumstances are against this possibility in the short term.

I think that message was "you need to be an administrator. It will need an admin password - at least one user (obviously not her) will have been set up to administer the machine.

Thanks Mick. I will follow that up.

Has she been given the Mac by a relative who may be the administrator?

Thanks Lionel. She bought the Mac Mini new but it was set up by a relation. She says her name is at the top after clicking the Apple logo. I assume that means she is the registered owner/administrator.

She needs to look at her account in System Preferences>Users & Groups. I expect it will see Standard rather than Administrator

Thanks Mick. I will get that checked.
