iPhone Message Recipient

Avatar Rick Churchill
My nephew has newly acquired an iPhone and sent me a message from Holland which arrived with a +44 number which had (without the zero) an additional 4 plus 6 digits. This is one too many digits for the normal zero followed by 3 plus 6 digits UK mobile numbers. (The Netherlands have a different numbering scheme).

The number shown on my phone (at the top of the message) is incorrect as he had retained his number from the previous phone. We both wiped the "message conversation" and now new messages are coming through correctly.

Any ideas how this occurred?
