GarageBand anomaly

Avatar Eric Jervis
I exported a 7 minutes 30 secs file to MP3 5.2MB;
I shortened it to 3 mins 18 secs and it measures 6.3 MB
Any ideas Gentlemen?

Is it because when I closed the original project after I'd exported it, GB asked me if I wanted to save the alterations, and I was a silly boy and said "Yes"?

I think a GarageBand file will be larger than an MP3 of its contents so if the 3:18 file is GarageBand then yes. If that is also MP3 then I have no idea!

That was my thinking Mick, but GarageBand tskes half a minute or so to convert the file to MP3, and if you then save it again does it then contain all the converting information thus making it bigger than before?

I doubt it. You could test it by converting again to see if it's quicker the second time.

I went back to the earliest version I could find, sorted it out in Audacity, exported it to MP3 and Lo - its only 2.1 MB....

I've done nine of them now and I may have discovered the problem. I had a lot of muted tracks which I've now deleted.....
