Hi all,

I'm not sure of the terminology, however here goes.

Is it possible to stream e.g. ITV player from my Macbook Pro (Yosemite 10.10 1) to my B&O television using an Apple TV.

I have just bought an Apple TV and cannot "stream" anything from my computer to the television. Possibly a complete waste of money?

Andrew,

The simplest way to display your Mac screen on the television is to 'mirror' (duplicate) the Mac's display on the Apple TV.

On your menu bar, at the right hand side, you should have an icon that looks like an outline rectangle with a black triangle pointing into the bottom of it. If you don't, the Apple TV and Mac are not live on the same network (the same WiFi) so suspect the Apple TV's network settings.

Click on the icon to get a menu; there should be an entry for whatever you've called your Apple TV; click on that. Your display may change resolution.The icon goes blue and you can choose options from the newly extended menu. You probably want 'Mirror built-in display' but you can also use 'Extend desktop' (where you get some 'extra' display space that you can drag windows onto, having guessed which side of your Mac's display its located). Some apps (eg Keynote) will use the TV screen more intelligently but mirroring covers most bases.

Hi Tony,

Thank you, my 2010 MacBookPro is too old to support Airplay, however my wife's 2011 MacBook Air does. After spending hours trying to set it up on my machine it took seconds to set it up on Joyce's. She was able to watch Broadchurch last night, what a relief???

Once again thank you, not only to Tony but to all the other regulars who sort our problems, without people like yourselves we would be in a right mess.

There is a program called Air Parrot which allows older Mac to air drop, it can be found at this web address

I connect the Mini Display / Thunderbolt port to the TV using a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable - this conveys sound as sell as image and the sync is not bad. I then stream the program from the web via my network.

I can also use this for showing images etc. Rather like connecting the MacBook Pro to the projector at Wamug meetings.
