Trevor Craven gave us a positive preview of what we could expect with the latest, shortly to be released, version 26 operating systems. Trevor pointed out that the Mac OS, iOS, and iPod OS systems get more and more similar, particularly the iPad getting more Mac-like. All systems, down to the watch, use the new “Liquid Glass” interface, with many new icons and greater use of transparency. The Preview app, with its new icon, is now included on IOS and iPad OS. Trevor said that you can now make phone calls from the Mac. The iPad OS introduces Mac-type floating windows, replacing the split screen and floating windows of the earlier systems. This includes the introduction of the familiar Mac traffic lights, which, on the smaller screen, you touch so they expand to make it easier to select, to work just like they do on a Mac.

After the break, we looked at the dos and don’ts of using mobile phones in public spaces and travelling overseas, including when best to avoid public Wi-Fi networks and, if necessary, the safest way to use them, and the use of VPNs. We looked at eSIMs and their use when travelling overseas. There are several apps on the App Store through which to buy eSIMs for multiple countries.
