Fareham — Mar 16th 2024

Eight members, plus a guest, came to Warsash, one week later than usual in the month due to the hall being fully booked on the 9th. Stuart talked about the options for running Windows, Linux, older Mac OS versions- even really, really old ones, and even Windows software without Windows at all, on your Intel or Apple Silicon Mac- the latter having closed some options down, but opened others. As so often in presentations, not everything went to plan. When running UTM https://mac.getutm.app/ (a free emulation & virtualisation solution), he fired up Windows 11. Which promptly needed an update. Of course it did. When running CrossOver, wwww.codeweavers.com (one of the ways to run Windows applications, even demanding games, on MacOS, with no copy of Windows at all), he started up the game Project Cars, which worked the previous night. It kept crashing. After he finished the presentation…it worked. And he crashed (a sim BMW on a sim track, that is!). The usual breakout discussions followed. Normal scheduling resumes in April!
