Lytchett Matravers — Nov 9th 2008

Another good meeting at Lytchett with a reasonable attendance. We had two presentations, the first from Lionel showing us the version of Photoshop that's web based and free to use. Of course, as Lionel pointed out, Adobe would still like to sell copies of both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements so the web version is not as sophisticated and it's tools are probably on a par with the latest version of iPhoto but if you're running an older version of that or you want to take advantage of the sharing photo gallery then it could be for you.

Michael Scruton was next up giving us an insight on just how much you can achieve with just a compact camera, iMovie and iDVD. We we taken through a day trip to Wembley with his two grandsons. Still photos and movie clips of the day together with audio were all dragged onto the iMovie timeline and edited. Transitions and titles were added and the whole lot exported to DVD for giving to the rest of the family.

That took care of the first half of the meeting and the second half was given over to problem solving and advice. Just as an aside in case it hasn't been mentioned enough(!!) if you have an issue you want help with, it's very much easier if you're able to bring your machine along to show someone the problem. OK, Mac Pros are not exactly portable but perhaps you could manage if it's an iMac.
