There was a turnout of 16 at this month’s meeting when Michael Corgan gave a talk on Spotlight, a built in app on the Mac platform.
Michael said that this app was more useful than most people realised and very few people use it to it’s full potential. It is opened by clicking on the Magnifying Glass icon at the top right bar on the Mac screen, or by using the cmd and spacebar keys.
You begin typing in the box that appears on the screen. The app will try to work out the word you put in and will complete the name for you along with suggesting further apps, depending on what you type.

It can do calculations if you input numbers and x + - or / The answer is instantaneous. More complex calculations can be done by using brackets.
Spotlight can do conversions if you put the unit of measurement after a number and will give an immediate answer. It will also do currency conversions if you put the money sign in.

It can help you find emails - except deleted ones. It will find a word in any file.
You can enter a word to find the definition. Put the word in, then press cmd & D which will open the Dictionary.

It can tell you the weather if you add the area you are looking for. Can give you suggestions for restaurants or other social suggestions
There are a number of keyboard shortcuts you can use and Michael had done a printout with them on.

We then went on to answer questions and they covered how to record a phone call on a Mac by using Quicktime Player, How to put Photos or Videos into Notes. Tips for taking Photos of Fireworks.

Euan ran us through using Tags after David set up his hardware to show us on the screen.
