Bournemouth — Apr 19th 2016

Tony Still opened the meeting with a report from the WAMUG Committee meeting where there was a discussion about how useful the weekly bulletin was. Most of the members found it useful. The question was also asked about how many members subscribed to the iCal Calendar from the website. Not many people had noticed it as is only visible when you are logged in (at the bottom of the calendar page).

The main presentation was by Tony on improving your photos, mostly using Apple's Photos on the Mac (Photos on iOS also has the features demonstrated). Tony started with some theory about digital photography, discussing pixels, megapixels and resolution. This led on to a demo of cropping an image in Photos, excluding the bits you don't want around the edges of an image.

Tony's presentation continued to light and exposure, discussing the dynamic range of the real world and the limited range that can be recorded by a camera. The next demo of Photos concentrated on adjusting the light in the image and the importance of the brightness histogram.

After the coffee break John Cadd showed a video he had produced for the Bournemouth Jazz Festival which starts on Friday 22nd April. See: http://www.bournemouthjazzfestival.co.uk for more info.

The meeting ended with a short discussion of members' Mac problems.
