Beaminster — Jun 2nd 2015

“Our meeting was well attended again, with 17 members assembled to learn, from Mick’s presentation, of the two basic types of email service, Pop & IMAP. Mick explained how with a POP account the user downloads mail from the server and that mail stays on the server until the user deletes it, good housekeeping is essential as servers have a storage limit making it important that any mail that is not wanted on record should be deleted at the server freeing up space. With IMAP accounts the user views their mail rather than downloading, e.g.., google on google s server and once you delete that mail it is then gone for ever. Mick also explains how smart mail boxes work recognising chosen words and filing mail in folders! This was a very interesting & informative presentation with plenty of queries from the members present.

As always we broke into small groups over coffee (and tea) after the presentation, which is an essential part of the way Beaminster members learn new things and get questions answered.”
