As promised, Derek took us through editing photos, firstly on the iPad. This was new to lots of those in attendance so it was a well paced walk-through which people could follow on their own machines with one of their own photos. Everyone was surprised at both the capability and ease of use of the Photos app. It's easy when you know how!

Derek then went on to look at the extra things that could be done when using a Mac. First he showed us some of the options in that very capable programme Preview and went on to have a quick look at Pixelmator, a much cheaper alternative to PhotoShop.

Before we got to looking at the editing programs I tried to emphasise the three key steps one should follow when working on pictures :-

Cull - get rid of the duplicates, dross and rubbish

Compose - ensure that vertical lines are vertical and horizons are horizontal.

Crop the image to maximise impact and usefulness of a picture. Remember pictures do not haver to the same aspect ratio as the original file

Now you can working the colour, saturation etc.
