Fareham — May 31st 2014

Saturdays meeting was an interesting meeting, the discussion was about Genealogy, Alan Clemmy introduced the topic explaining how he started using “Family Tree History” a Windows product, many years ago to record his family history, he used Virtual Box on his Macbook to run ‘doze to show how the application worked.

He then moved on to using Heredis a Mac application to continue documenting his family tree.

We were fortunate that John E-W was accompanied by his wife Jill who is a very enthusiastic genealogist who then joined in the discussion and also by Chris T who is an enthusiastic user of the Ancestory online application/database.

To sum up - we had a very informative and interesting discussion on do it yourself “Who do You Think You Are”.

Derek then raised the topic of printing from an iOS device eg iPhone or iPad.
If a printer that supports the AirPrint protocol is available then it is supposedly an easy process - however many printers do not support the protocol. Netputing have released “handyPrint v5.0.7” a product that runs on a Mac that will act as an AirPrint front end, so that print requests can be sent from the iOS device to the printer via the Mac. Derek said that he has the program printing to a network attached laser printer.

Admin - we decided that we would not hold a meeting in July.

Next meeting is on the 28th June.
