John opened the Christmas meeting with 21 members present.

Mick explained that David had taken over from Mark as the Dorchester organiser, and with it a Committee position. He presented a token of appreciation to Mark.

Graham then entertained us by giving the story of his time and travels, with attempts to record the latter with digital photos, transferred to movies. He has purchased a Multimedia Hard Drive to back these up, but, despite recourse to Apple Genii, and other sources of expertise, remains unsatisfied that the results preserve the quality of the original photos.

David then took us back to basics, the following being brief summary notes of some of the points covered:-
Keystrokes - cmd-c,copy cmd-v paste etc., Use of tab key for completing forms. Also cmd-tab for switching between programmes.
Two finger tap to get alternate set of commands to selection.
Finder list - change order of displayed files by clicking column header
Quick Look select-space
Change name of document - select - return
Move docs to new location - in Mavericks - cmd T new tab in Finder
Option drag - move a copy
Aliases cmd - L
Selection - shift for contiguous selection, cmd for multiple selections - works in iPhoto
Screenshot cmd shift 3 or 4 etc
Help - from Help Menus, WAMUG forum, Google search, iChat (Messages) allows a screen to be shared - either can use
Spaces - open up to 12, use tab to move between.

Mince pies and Coffee then followed, and were much appreciated.

Eric told us about Global VPN (or how to pretend you're somewhere else when on the Internet). VPN One Click thirteen pounds ninety nine for a year on Mac via App Store, six pounds ninety nine for iPad. Can select country and get IP address valid for that country - useful for watching TV channels.

Tom had a Christmas surprise in the form of a Bluetooth speaker from Robert Dyas nineteen pounds ninety nine "inTempo". Use for iPhone conversations, iTunes etc.
