Salisbury — Jan 27th 2010

I think it's fair to say that not having a meeting in December has been detrimental to the Salisbury group. It seems that the long gap from the end of November has brought on withdrawal symptoms in some members and seen them return spoiling for a fight! This was clearly in evidence during our first demonstration of the feature that Apple first Introduced with Leopard i.e. Spaces. As with most operations on the Mac there are several ways of achieving the same end and Spaces is just one of those ways. However, there was somewhat of a free-for-all with frequent shouts of "don't do it like that, it's much quicker doing it this way" and often "no, it's much better to do it like this". Despite my requests for those present not to shoot the messenger, it seems that this particular messenger was well and truly shot! Despite this I remain a firm fan of this feature of our OS.

Things calmed down during our second demonstration. This was an introduction to Pages. We looked at how to setup a basic headed notepaper ready for our correspondence and then moved on to a simple three column newsletter including photographs. It turned out that although this was meant to be very much a basic introduction for those who were unfamiliar with the software, there were one or two points raised which were new to some of the more seasoned users.

All in all a very lively and enjoyable meeting with lots of cheerful banter and almost everyone present having their say which let's be honest, is exactly what we want at these meetings. At 9:30 we all departed and got some very quizzical looks from the other uses of the rugby club who clearly had been wondering what on earth was going on and what was causing the gales of laughter to come from our small room on the other side of the bar.
