Bournemouth — Sep 22nd 2009

At the Bournemouth meeting last evening the following AGM items took place:

1) Apologies for absence were received from Terry Willis, Mick Burrell and Euan Williams

2) The existing committee was returned unopposed and there were no nominations for new committee members.

3) Mick Burrell was proposed as the new chairman by myself and seconded by Lionel (as originally happened) and was voted in unanimously.

4) Lionel presented his report to the meeting, and explained the various headings of expenditure and income.

5) Meeting reports were given by Mark Ford (Dorchester), myself (Bournemouth obviously) and in the absence of the Meeting organisers, Derek Wright (Fareham) and Lionel (Salisbury). From the figures given, and allowing for an overlap of attendances at different venues, it seems as if the average overall attendance is around 60 per meeting cycle, which is an extremely high percentage of our current total membership, which stands at 95.

It is also good to note that an average of 2 presentations are made at each meeting, in the main by our own members. Also that the new venue for Salisbury is working very well and seems to be a great improvement on the old one.

6) AOB
i) Members were keen to have our meetings promoted and those present expressed their willingness to put up fliers in local public areas. They will all be sent a pdf of our last flier by email. There was also agreement that the example set by Dorchester, of a small ad in the local free press, should be copied, and that will be done.
ii) With regard to the idea of WAMUG purchasing equipment for loan to members – e.g. a slide copier – that was agreed as being a good idea and the possibility of WAMUG making a modest charge for a specific period of hire was also generally thought to be worthwhile

The meeting then reverted to a normal monthly meeting at which there were three presentations - the second part of a trot through the Utilities folder showed the very interesting Colour Meter for getting precise colour reproduction from the screen, the ever useful Disk Utility, enabling us to look after the health of our hard drives, and Grab - not as well known as it might be, but improving on the way in which the keyboard short cuts enable the copying of portions of the screen or of a whole window or indeed the whole screen. There were also the more esoteric utilities of Console, Directory and Directory Utility - strictly for the more advanced among us!

Then our usual Q & A, followed by a demo of Leap, free in the current MacUSer, but not a Finder replacement as advertised. However it is a good programme for finding images of any sort and for examining them without needing to open them up. A good attendance and a good meeting.

Sad that no matter what treats Michael tempts us with, we cannot quite manage to get attendance above 20 and relieve Solutions of that voucher.

How much was it for Michael?

John Marriott also sent apologies.
You forgot the stunning demo of Comic Life that made the whole evening worth while!

You are right - apologies to Mark Ford who gave the demo - and that's the second time that i forgot his valuable and valued input - perhaps I should get some new memory from Crucial!
