Salisbury — Aug 26th 2009

We got off to a bad start for our August meeting! There were road works on Castle Road from the city out to our meeting place and the road was closed. Possibly as an economy measure, there seemed to be no diversion signs set up! This would have been OK if you were a native of Salisbury and knew your way around but Lionel arrived in Salisbury at 6:45 in order to set up his demo for a 7:30 start but didn't make it until 8:00pm. I've since heard that two members actually gave up after a while and went home. Sorry guys - I had no idea the road was closed as coming from Andover I approach from the opposite direction. I can't find out anything about it now so my guess would be that the road works have finished so we'll be fine for our September meeting - perhaps one of our Salisbury residents can confirm.

Anyway, back to the plot! Lionel gave us his demo of iTunes which, aided by our excellent internet access, was a great grounding for anyone new to the program and provided hints and tips for those of us who thought we knew it. We covered importing music from various sources, alternatives to the iTunes Store, getting album artwork and playing a lot more than just music. Where laptops were not available pens and paper were very busy noting down the various web site addresses to access everything Lionel showed us.

We then went on to a problem solving session covering such things as dealing with more than one email address with and without more than one account and the perplexing (and unsolved) problem as to why a perfectly good Appleworks file, when moved to another machine would not open and still would not open when moved back! Still, nobody knows everything.

The new venue seems popular - we had a couple of members who saw it for the first time having not managed to attend the last two. We've moved to the last Wednesday of the month instead of the first so our next one will be on 30th September. Hope to see you there (road works permitting!)
