The Dorchester group meeting on Tuesday 29 April, was ably hosted by John, who succeeded in navigating his way through a cornucopia of interesting items in the face of a lively audience, which included Euan, so recently liberated from the burdensome shackles of Administration, whose plangent joy at this release it was a veritable pleasure to behold.
Lionel opened the bowling, using the new WAGS projector, and showed us the merits of Mpegstreamclip…

Numbers slightly down, but still a good turn out - Michael showed some unexpected strengths and capabilities in that old warhorse Sticky Notes, proved that a magnifying glass could be a necessity when using the free application Cocoa Booklet to make a four-page booklet from a document with A4 pages - printed, incidentally (and this is the strength of the application) in the right order for a folded document - either that or a little more experimentation…

This months meeting at Fareham, took us from the creative genre to business acumen. Both topics providing a lot of discussion and interest. We kicked off with Sam giving us an insight into the workings of Garageband, bringing along his wealth of talent and enthusiasm to persuade us all that perhaps, we all should investigate how we could use the programme.
Following a break for Coffee & Doughnuts, Mick then showed us the…

It was nice to see a couple of members who hadn't been able to make it for the last couple of meetings and also to welcome two new visitors. Barry Read gave us a very good demo using Final Cut Express and explained some of the differences between that and iMovie which made it worth spending the extra money. My demo on creating mobile phone ringtones using GarageBand cause some amusement but several people were…

Another well attended meeting. Great interest was shown in Barry's description of how he is starting to come to terms with Final Cut Pro. It was particularly useful to newcomers to the app. Considerable discussion followed and he promised to give us a second instalment when he has learnt more!
Euan had set up an Apple II and had also brought along some copies of a publication called Clipboard that contained a digest…

Another good meeting turnout, and with a series of interesting presentations. The first from Neil Strudwick of MYOB showing the revised layout and ease of use of the latest Mac-friendly versions of this set of book-keeping programs. There was some good interest shown from the audience - and he didn't do too hard a sell. (He had been warned!)
After this two members, Jim Hayward and Mark Ford, gave presentations on digital…

An excellent turn out - 20 members all keen and ready to go! I would say that it was down to Frances bringing a mouth watering cake along, but we didn't know about that till she arrived but it was a welcome addition. (Much nicer than Terry's doughnuts!)
Martin had done a very professional Keynote presentation to show us some of the podcasts he's found interesting. All available through iTunes. This was followed by…

We had a very small band of members attending this month - very small but very keen! We had a good question and answer session and were able to solve most of them. Do remember though if you come and want to try to solve an issue, it's much easier if you have your machine with you. O.K. PowerMacs or Mac Pros can be a little tricky but iMacs can be surprisingly portable.

A good turn out. David demonstrated the way in which Airfoil can take audio from any application and send to an AirPort Express unit, as well as Apple TV. It also includes a beta player for video which delays the picture to match the delay in the sound.

The star of this meeting was undoubtedly the new MacBook Air, ably demonstrated by Lucy, the Assistant Store Manager of our hosts, Solutions. So light (at 3 lbs) that she was able to hold it up on the palm of her hand throughout the demonstration, while illustrating not only the slick design, but the abilities of the enlarged touch pad, echoing those of the iPhone in allowing rotating of pictures, as well as enlarging, diminishing…
