We started the afternoon with Mark's presentation of Comic Life Magiq - yes, that is how they spell it. Mark concentrated on showing us just the features that have been added in this new version. The bit that impressed us most was that it now has a tool for cutting out one area of a photo and putting it onto another. This was very easy to use and you didn't have to be too precise to…

This meeting brought our first year in Salisbury to a close. We were a little down on our average with just nine stalwarts making the effort. I say stalwarts as 3 of us had made 8 of the possible 11 meetings, 2 had made 9, 2 had been to 10 and one other person besides me had in fact made it to all 11 - so we have a "keen core"! Of course, our…

Steve opened the June meeting at the Colliton Club, at which this month's speakers were Ivan and Martin.
Ivan demonstrated how iPhoto can be used to achieve all sorts of transformations to photos, from changes in colour balance, to alterations in texture. Some of these effects one had imagined could only be achieved using a programme such as Photoshop. He followed this up with an impressive DVD presentation which showed 'before' and 'after…

AS Trevor Middleton was driving down from Derby to show us how we could use our Macs to track down our ancestors, at jut gone 3 I received a call from Solutions. Their security shutter had malfunctioned and had to be repaired. And that meant there would be no access to the shop or the presentation room beneath between 6 and 11.30 that night. Of course, this was a…

We had two topics running this week, which took up most of the meeting, both linked to "Hobbies" or "How" our Macs are used. We wanted to explore the uses that our Macs are put to, so rather than concentrate on specific pieces of software, this series of presentations will concentrate on what they are used for. Hopefully others will come forward to give a chat on their hobbies or past…

A photography evening this month. Shane kicked off with an excellent presentation involving fairly simple, easy to achieve, very useful tips for Photoshop users. And none of us knew they were there - at least I didn't and judging by the mutterings from the audience, I wasn't alone!
Euan followed this with an explanation of colour theory and told us all about gamuts (I thought that was some kind of duck but apparently not!) He…

This evening's meeting was ably hosted at the Colliton Club by Nigel.
The first talk was by David Martin, and introduced members to various aspects of Digital Photography. These included the use of the 'Capture One' programme (www.phaseone.com) to operate a camera linked to a mac with a firewire or USB cable, the manipulation of RAW images, and correcting for colour balance. Essentially, the advice was to make all the adjustments…

Last Tuesday - the 20th - was the meeting that never was. Due to two misplaced assumptions and carelessness on my part the venue at Solutions was only booked up until April. My mistake was to assume that the shop staff would consider that we were a fixture. Theirs was to assume that we weren’t! So there was no meeting despite efforts by Lionel Ogden and myself to try to find an alternative venue at zero…

Another good meeting at Crumpets even though numbers were a little down (we blamed the glorious weather!)
Mark started us off by showing us the data detectors in the Leopard version of Mail. These show an excellent integration between Mail, iCal and Address Book allowing you to semi-automatically add contacts and appointments that you've received by email.
Next, Martin took us through the what he'd done to publish a book…

To quote Mssrs Barker and Corbet - "And in a packed programme tonight…" - it was very much a packed programme at Salisbury this month.
We kicked off with a demonstration of astronomy software from Simon. In fact, the software took a back seat as we all became enthralled by Simon's enthusiasm and knowledge of his subject. We were presented with some stunning photographs taken using the Hubble telescope as well as some…
