I think it's fair to say that not having a meeting in December has been detrimental to the Salisbury group. It seems that the long gap from the end of November has brought on withdrawal symptoms in some members and seen them return spoiling for a fight! This was clearly in evidence during our first demonstration of the feature that Apple first Introduced with Leopard i.e. Spaces. As with most operations on the Mac there… Read more…

A non-meeting tonight. Certainly one brave soul was turned away by Solutions staff who told him - and it was his first meeting so that he couldn't argue - that the meeting was booked for Thursday. Those of us who found each other waitin likke orphans in the cold sat over coffees and other warming drinks in the friendly Italian restaurant and held a mini-meting. A worried checking of emails confirmed that the third Tuesday of… Read more…

Our meeting on 12 January was attended by 14 members, who had braved the weather conditions to be present.

We commenced with a review by David Churchill of "Mac OSX Snow Leopard - Portable Genius", written by Dwight Spivey, and published by Wiley. David is preparing a written version of his review, which will be referenced in a later comment on this entry. Broadly, the book, although useful, was actually a bit… Read more…

Despite appalling weather and the close proximity of Christmas, neither of which is conducive to a large turnout for any meeting there was a respectable number of hardy souls present at Solutions, to be greeted by a surfeit of mince pies - half provided by your Committee, and half, as a welcome surprise, by Solutions.

Solutions were once more unfortunately unable to give a presentation on the features of Snow Leopard, so instead there… Read more…

Our meeting was, as usual, opened by John, with 13 members present.

David of purbecmacsupport.com gave us a very well researched presentation on Google Apps and Services. The first to be discussed was Google mail, which could very easily be set up to work with the Apple Mail application, and, with EMAP, was very suitable for use when more than one mac was used to access a single mail account. He also… Read more…

We had a very good attendance last night, the highest number we've had for quite some time. Numbers were boosted by people from other areas who had come specifically to see the presentation on how to deal with transferring data from your old Mac to a new one and then what needs to be done to the old Mac in order to let it go to its new home safe in the knowledge that your… Read more…

A much better turn-out this month, almost up to the good attendances of the summer. Don Collier, of Semaphore Communications in Poole came along to give us a clear, intersting and inspirational (sufficient to get us all downloading trial copies of the program) presentation on Bento3. A modern take on a database from Apple, while not having some of the functionality of some people's sturdy favourite, Bento is nontheless very useful in many areas, being… Read more…

Apologies were received from a number of members kept at home by fog or ill-health.

Report back from the WaMugs Committee (Mark Ford)

Our new Chair, Mick Burrell, presided.

It was decided that the club will buy the sort of medium cost gizmos that might get used only once. The sort of items envisaged are a VHS to DVD thingy and a vinyl to digital turntable. These could… Read more…

Our best turn-out for months, New members, people from other areas, the fame of our new venue is spreading.

We started off with a brief run through of what user names and passwords are needed from your ISP to get you on line and to send and receive email. Although these are vital should you need to set up again, a quick show of hands revealed that not many of us are… Read more…
