A much better turn-out this month, almost up to the good attendances of the summer. Don Collier, of Semaphore Communications in Poole came along to give us a clear, intersting and inspirational (sufficient to get us all downloading trial copies of the program) presentation on Bento3. A modern take on a database from Apple, while not having some of the functionality of some people's sturdy favourite, Bento is nontheless very useful in many areas, being… Read more…

Apologies were received from a number of members kept at home by fog or ill-health.

Report back from the WaMugs Committee (Mark Ford)

Our new Chair, Mick Burrell, presided.

It was decided that the club will buy the sort of medium cost gizmos that might get used only once. The sort of items envisaged are a VHS to DVD thingy and a vinyl to digital turntable. These could… Read more…

Our best turn-out for months, New members, people from other areas, the fame of our new venue is spreading.

We started off with a brief run through of what user names and passwords are needed from your ISP to get you on line and to send and receive email. Although these are vital should you need to set up again, a quick show of hands revealed that not many of us are… Read more…

A cosy rather than a crowded meting, due no doubt to the torrential rain that had come in from the West ... It was unfortunate that Solutions were unable to give a run through the benefits of Snow Leopard, particularly as WAMUG have been given 2 copies of the John wiley Portable Genius series for each of the 4 meetings. Welcome raffle prizes! In view of the very small turnout (our worst for over a year) it… Read more…

John welcomed everyone to our meeting on 22 October, which was attended by 22 members. He was the first to present, and gave us a view of some of the features of Preview which were new to many of us. In addition to using it to view pdf files, and pictures, which seems to be how most use it, Preview has simple but powerful editing features. These enable pdf files to be annotated in various… Read more…

The new venue is proving quite popular. The broadband is very good although it did slow down a bit when most of the eleven attendees were all downloading or iChatting at once! I can also vouch for the beer - but that's another matter. The room size and its layout really suits a group that just creeps into double figures.

As we had a few members relatively new to Macs we had a look… Read more…

At the Bournemouth meeting last evening the following AGM items took place:

1) Apologies for absence were received from Terry Willis, Mick Burrell and Euan Williams

2) The existing committee was returned unopposed and there were no nominations for new committee members.

3) Mick Burrell was proposed as the new chairman by myself and seconded by Lionel (as originally happened) and was voted in unanimously.

4) Lionel… Read more…

The meeting was introduced by John, with a total of 24 people present, which must be some kind of a record.

David Moon started with a series of helpful 'odds and ends'. These ranged from the keyboard shortcuts and function keys, which all do wonderful things, if only we could remember them, to free browser add-ons such as Xmarks, which holds bookmarks and passwords which can then be used on different browsers… Read more…

We got off to a bad start for our August meeting! There were road works on Castle Road from the city out to our meeting place and the road was closed. Possibly as an economy measure, there seemed to be no diversion signs set up! This would have been OK if you were a native of Salisbury and knew your way around but Lionel arrived in Salisbury at 6:45 in order to set up… Read more…
