The meeting was opened by John, with 18 members present.

David gave a very interesting presentation which explained how he used Sound Studio and iTunes to produce a regular audio magazine programme on CD for blind people in the area. He introduced this with some historical recollections of how sound recording had been used 'in the field' by the BBC since the days of WWII, using wire recorders, reel-to-reel tape, and… Read more…

Numbers were a bit down this month hopefully that was just because it was summer. Nevertheless we had the usual enthusiastic bunch hanging on the presenter's every word! This month's presenter was Barry and he was showing us just how easy it is to transfer an iPhoto slideshow into iDVD. To demonstrate this we were treated to a slideshow Barry had compiled from photographs he took on a trip to Canada a couple of years… Read more…

We were given an excellent presentation on how to trace your family - first from Mary Hewson, on the sources available - a fact sheet was handed out to enable anyone interested to get started - and then a comprehensive demonstration of a well-proven and impressive genealogical program for the Mac - Reunion - which showed well in presenting the details and the family tree of a huge number of ancestors that Trevor Hewson has found and researched over… Read more…

The meeting was opened by Mark, with a total of 19 members present. We all introduced ourselves, as there were quite a few who were new to the group.

Mark then demonstrated Yep! from www.yepsoftware.com This useful programme costs $34, and searches for all the pdf files on a Mac, and identifies them in a searchable archive. It will even read a scanned in document to enable a search of words… Read more…

This months Fareham meeting kicked off with WindowsXP showing on the screen. Shock, horror... Were we at the wrong meeting, wrong date...!?! No, thankfully it was to demo a piece of new technology which is currently only available for PC use. As it was so impressive and will be made available for the Mac it was deemed suitable!

So what was this marvellous technology, it was a magical pen which when used to… Read more…

Numbers were a bit down this month but perhaps people were in the back garden sun bathing - it was certainly hot enough!

There were a few questions and answers as usual then we had a brief look at spam - how is it we get targeted and how to deal with it either using Mail's junk filter or before it gets anywhere near your Mac.

We were then treated to two impromptu… Read more…

Another good meeting with new faces - both members and visitors -and presentations by Michael Corgan on Dashboard and where to get widgets and how, and by Lionel on how to make web-site widgets giving immediate access to a web page using Safari - couldn't be easier! And finally a hilarious tour around the sky over Heathrow, thanks to Euan and his Flying Helmet of the Future. And after the main meeting almost everybody decamped to… Read more…

John opened the meeting, which was attended by 14 members.

Lionel gave a lively presentation on iTunes, which was a helpful introduction to the newcomer, and a welcome reminder to the more experienced, of the various facilities which were available to users of this established Macintosh favourite. We covered the videos and podcasts available through the iTunes shop, the Visualiser, playlists, and smart playlists, how to use iTunes tracks with iPhoto and iMovie… Read more…

We had a good attendance for the May meeting plus several "really sorry to miss this one" emails. Lots of people wanted to hear Dot's talk on genealogy. Those that attended were not disappointed! Dot is clearly no amateur when it comes to tracing family history and it showed in the level of detail she'd managed to uncover. She also used her experience to warn us of the many resources that are now… Read more…

A very good audience of 15 plus a visitor from Reading, and a most excellent presentation from Bob Campbell of onOne Software. Bob showed how many different actions , which would be complicated and/or time consuming in Photoshop, such as masking out a hairline agagainst a sky background, or, even more impresive, a net, such as a bride's veil, which could be masked whilst retaining the finest detail of the net. These plug-ins are also… Read more…
