We had a good attendance of 15, including several new faces.

John talked us through several basic iPad features and then explained how to take a steady photo by using one of the volume control buttons. Then how to attach a photo to an email. He then covered the procedure for installing an App and how to update one.

Next, he demonstrated how to pair a bluetooth keyboard with an iPad… Read more…

Once the rather novel IT setup had been persuaded to function (more later), Tony introduced himself to give a talk on Keynote on the iPad.

The talk covered the design, production and delivery of a presentation, the first section emphasising the importance of sorting out your ideas at the outset, being clear on the objectives of the talk and tailoring it to the intended audience.

Tony's presentation had been prepared entirely… Read more…

John opened the meeting with 19 members present.

Mick then gave a talk on iCloud and iCloud Drive, the main distinction being that the former is mainly used to synchronise files automatically (e.g. Contacts, dates) whereas the latter is intended to store files. In this respect, iCloud Drive has much in common with apps such as Dropbox, but is, in some ways, at least at present, more limited than Dropbox in terms… Read more…

There was a good attendance (16, including a very welcome visitor from Fareham - John Hooper, a fellow meeting Organiser) to hear Michael go through the basics of creating a Newsy letter and a News Letter using Pages.
for a few friends
The difference between the two was that the Newsy Letter is designed to be sent to a friend, and the News Letter is a more formal document aimed at a group… Read more…

Seven members attended this first meeting of the year and John Hooper took over as organizer.

John gave us a talk with keynote illustrations about all the different ways to transfer files between Apple devices.
Airdrop was considered to be the easiest system to use and is already built into OSX Yosemite and iOS 8.
It is now compatible with both operating systems, unlike the previous versions.
The next best… Read more…

WAMUG MEETING 20 Jan 2015

On a cold, wet evening, 19 of us met at Solutions, including one new member.

John Ansell gave an informative talk about alternatives to Safari, useful to know about if a website won't display properly, or if you wish to test your own website. Google Chrome is now the most widely used web browser (across all web users), and has many similarities to Safari. Mozilla Firefox… Read more…

Our meeting on 13 January was, as usual, opened by John, with 24 members, including two new members, present. Mick began by talking about the features which he found particularly useful in Yosemite (although some of these were also present in earlier versions of the OS).
• Finder window tabs
• Safari Favorites - these are, by default, in a menu on the left, although a helpful option exists to revert to the traditional… Read more…

This week was an arty occasion pitched primarily at our iPad users.

Michael set off by showing the basics of a free app, Tayasui Sketches. This has a selection of painting and drawing tools, a pattern swatch and a colour swatch. And of course an eraser tool The latter can have custom colours too. He also showed how it is possible to fill selected areas with various patterns, to create background or shadow… Read more…
