One of our busiest meetings - not with numbers but with content. Once we'd got inside (the rugby club had decided not to open till 8:00 as their season has finished but neglected to tell us) we used the main room instead of our normal small one.

Annie started us off by exploring the capabilities of a new slide scanner. Most of the features apply equally well to scanning documents on a flatbed… Read more…

There was the usual select gathering at the Solutions store in Bournemouth and in addition to the single item on the WAMUG mailing there were three other presentations offered.

Mick began the meeting by giving a presentation on how to ensure that you could send and receive e-mail while away from home using your laptop, iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

Using a service such as Googlemail seemed to be the… Read more…

Fewer folk this month but a clutch of iPads in evidence. We had apologies from 5 members. Tom's talk on iMovie 11 was held over until the June meeting but Lionel took us through the functions of Front Row which I must confess I have never bothered with. I certainly will now if I can track the little zapper down!

Mark demonstrated how easily his newly acquired iPad 2 displayed through the projector… Read more…

The April meeting of the Fareham group was held at the Portchester Community School, we were hosted by Alan and Matt Clemmy plus Ryan, a student at the school.
We were shown the three Mac based classrooms and some others that had PCs in them.

The Mac rooms typical contained 16 or so iMacs all connected and monitored by the lecturers iMac - all the rooms had digital projectors.

We were pleased to welcome Derek Wright to the meeting this month. Derek uses Aperture extensively and he very ably demonstrated its capabilities showing us how it takes things much further than iPhoto. We looked at importing to folders and manipulating the image by adjusting sliders (contrast or exposure for example) but also by using the histograms. For users of 10.6.6 or later, Aperture is an absolute bargain for £45 on The… Read more…

Tuesday’s meeting was well attended with a dozen people assembled to learn about music making on the Mac and to meet and question the editor of the premium Mac magazine, iCreate.

A presentation by Nick from Solutions took us, at some speed, through the wide range of abilities of GarageBand. This turns out to be a very competent program with a terrific range of options, of pre-recorded short pieces of music… Read more…

The meeting was opened by John with 16 members present.

As usual, it began with a Q&A session, very much assisted by Gordon.
Michael had a problem in that he had lost his Address Book entries, and was having difficulty in restoring them using Time Machine. Where is data stored? Reference was made to files which were kept in association with different applications; in this case, the place to look… Read more…

We started the meeting with what was hopefully a solution to an iPhoto issue and then carried on to offer advice about which to purchase - iPad2, MacBook Air or the basic MacBook. We were all chipping in with various pros and cons so I'm not sure Michael is any further forward but we should see what decision he made next time!

Several of us knew that Disc Utility cannot repair the disc it's… Read more…

Seven people attended the meeting including a new Mac user seeking information on migrating from the dark side - welcome.

Prior to the usual business, we announced that the April 30th meeting will be held at Portchester Community School, White Hart Lane, Portchester, where we will be shown round and see in use the school's two Mac suites of computers.

An interesting evening revolving around the attributes and worth of MobileMe - ably demonstrated by Marco of Solutions. The discussions went on to cover a wider range, amongst other subjects touched on a comparison between SuperDuper and Time Machine. This was to the detriment of the former, as the argument in favour of Time Machine is that it does not interfere with the layout of the hard drive sectors, something which is apparently done by SuperDuper… Read more…
