The topic for the main discussion this month was creating Dynamic Panoramas. Derek Wright explained that he had been taking panorama pictures for quite a while, The images had been merged together using the special feature in Photoshop. The images tended to be very long and thin so when viewing with Preview the image had to be zoomed in and then scrolled left and right to see the image, and / or printed on continuous paper… Read more…

It was nice to have a demo that had been requested! This month, Denis gave an excellent follow-up to his previous PhotoShop presentation, showing us more of the versatility of the full version - CS6. He did point out that it can be rented for a monthly fee if the eye-watering price of purchase is beyond your budget but that a lot of what he showed us was also available in the much cheaper… Read more…

Another good attendance resulted in much lively discussion before the meeting formally started. When Alan eventually managed to bring us to order, the Q&A session covered a variety of topics including how Alan came to have some old dormant 2004 Windows viruses on his 2007 machine, conversion of Appleworks documents, rumours of a new iMac (and whether or not it would be able to run pre-Lion versions of the OS to run… Read more…

Mark opened the meeting. 15 members were present the floods having prevented many from travelling.

Tom told us about motion induced blindness - Drivers advised to keep moving eyes and not become fixated on one spot, otherwise danger of losing peripheral vision. This can be a danger for elderly motorists, and Tom wanted to show us a computer simulation to demonstrate this. Unfortunately, the Colliton Club network proved unequal to the task, and so… Read more…

For the first half hour Lionel told us about Drop Box and its use for synchronising files between your Macs and mobile devices as well as its ability to act as an off-site storage facility for those that need it. With 2GB of space being available free of charge, this could well be enough for your most important data. he also explained how it could be used to share files with others either by… Read more…

Thanks to the improved Colliton Club www connection, John, taking time out from his holiday in France, was able to address the assembled members via the Internet, and mutual greetings were exchanged. Including his virtual presence, the meeting was attended by 14 members.

Brian and Reg did a double act for us this month taking us through how you get started with producing a newsletter using Pages. Despite the restrictions of using the small laptop screen rather than the somewhat larger screen of his iMac, Reg managed to move stuff around and show us how he produced the main header banner from different components and then grouped them all together to be moved around as one. He then… Read more…
