Euan introduced us to Affinity Publisher ,the third DTP application produced by the Nottingham based British company founded in 1987 Serif originally producing apps for Windows PC. They took the Apple market by surprise and delight by launching Affinity Designer in 2014. Affinity Photo followed and both apps became available additionally for Windows and IOS. Whilst there is much commonality between the two apps but it was only with the release of Publisher, this year… Read more…

One of the smallest attendances for a very long time to hear Michael and Euan give widely different presentations. (Maybe there was something interesting on the telly?) There were just 9 people present to hearMichael gave an updated version of his presentation outlining the things that Spotlight, the free app that comes with all Macs, can do. He also showed that there is an equivalent in iOS for iPhone and iPad users, they too can… Read more…

Andy Prendergast’s talk about morphing one face into another began with us chuckling at his example of morphs between his and Euan’s faces “which he had made earlier”. He used these to stress the importance of keeping a simple and consistent background and face orientation. He set up his MacBook on a table at which each member could sit in turn, illuminated by professional lighting. On the Mac Andy… Read more…

Following Euan’s talk on Affinity Publisher, Tony decided to take an in-depth look at Pages which, while not nearly as fully featured as Affinity, is a very capable word processing and page layout program. Pages first appeared as part of iWorks in 2005 and steadily increased in capability until a major revamp, version 5, in 2013. Apparently allowing for IOS development, in terms of features this was several steps backwards. But by… Read more…
