April saw 11 Members attending when John talked us through keyboard shortcuts supported by a printout. He mentioned that there were 5 Modifier keys, Command, Control, Option or (Alt), and Shift. These only do something when used with another key for example Cmd key plus S is the shortcut for Save.
John then went on to show us a lot of the shortcuts and what they did. The conclusion was that the keyboard shortcuts… Read more…

Mick showed us how useful and flexible Apple’s voice assistant Siri can be. A simple request about the weather in Andover was easily answered but so also was the rather more indirect question “do I need to take my umbrella if I go for a walk this afternoon in Andover. Siri can be used to control many aspects of the Apple Device; sticking with the Mac, Mick got Siri to open an… Read more…

13 members & 1 guest came to our April meeting to hear John Lemon summarised his own talk as follows: “Three apps and a dongle.” Perhaps a little more detail is needed to do it justice. First app was WeatherPro which is available in basic or premium form. The latter shows the weather for two weeks ahead in whichever location takes your fancy. A lot of fine detail, graphical and numeric, is… Read more…

In defence of the criticism of Apple over pricing of its new iPhone XS at the end of 2018, Tony decided to look at all the presents that Santa Tim Cook gives us starting with the fact that all new Macs come with a collection of included apps we used to know as iLife i.e. iMovie, Photos and GarageBand and iWork i.e. Pages, Numbers and Keynote, but now steadily being incorporated into an… Read more…

There was a turnout of 16 at this month’s meeting when Michael Corgan gave a talk on Spotlight, a built in app on the Mac platform.
Michael said that this app was more useful than most people realised and very few people use it to it’s full potential. It is opened by clicking on the Magnifying Glass icon at the top right bar on the Mac screen, or by using… Read more…

Another excellent turn out of 17 members & 1 guest

Michael presented ten tips which may help members tailor their Apple equipment so it behaved exactly as they wished - for example the first screen on waking up showing the local weather. Others included finding that elusive cursor, dedicating specific key combinations to ensure that you always had ‘save as’ available and how to alter a PDF without buying expensive software or… Read more…

February brought a keen but diminished nine members to hear David Moon describe the facilities available from Apple's Continuity. Before the presentation, Tony Still reminded everyone of the recently published 'Code of Conduct' for the Bournemouth meetings, designed to avoid any more unfortunate incidents around the fragile shelves of All Fired Up.

David described the introduction of Continuity in OS X Yosemite and iOS 8 and how it is now available for Mac… Read more…
