Starting with the Q and A where sorting emails was the subject.

Euan presented QuarkXpress, the page layout application, explaining many features of this high end desk-top publishing application.

He began with a brief history of how the application has been developed from its launch in 1986-7 along with Aldus Pagemaker up to the 2018 upgrade.

QuarkXpress can re-purpose files from print layouts for electronic platforms, including iPads, phones and tablets, ePubs, iOS apps, and every variety of pdf.

Features are constantly being added, such as Colour Font technology which makes it possible to ‘type’ not just vector fonts, but even coloured bitmap images.

QuarkXpress users can adjust and blend photos with other layout content within the application, reducing the need to switch back and forth to Photoshop.

The use of "Job Jackets” and house styles helps designers to keep to a standard look and feel across documents.

In all, a very interesting presentation about a rather specialist application.

During the break for coffee, our visitor, Barry Fitzpatrick from “Wiltshire Online” came along to see what we do and tell us about the organisations aim to help beginners in the use of computers in Wiltshire, there are a few Apple Mac users who may like to come to our meetings.
