Beaminster — Dec 5th 2017

It is obvious that the prospect of mince pies is a great enticement, to judge by the very good attendance of 20 people at our December meeting. They were rewarded (if that is the right word) by listening to Michael extolling the list of Things That Can Be Done on iPads and (to some extent) iPhones mainly under iOS11. This included the various options for creating different types of Notes, including making a scan (difficult with only the light from the projector) drawing - useful for sending a quick sketch map, searching for a word or phrase in all your notes, and recovering deleted notes. Then a look at saving and printing web pages in Safari without all the ads (or the graphics). Michael also showed a little tip using Maps - enter a location and at the bottom right-hand corner an icon shows the weather conditions plus the temperature. After that the idea was to show that it is possible to delete unused apps while retaining any data and documents in case you might wish to bring the app back, using Airdrop - including how to find it in the new Control Centre layout in i)S 11, and finally a new trick for Siri, the ability to translate words and phrases into 5 other languages - but not, it appeared, from British English! There was also a hand-out listing which iPads and iPhones can be updated to iOS 10 and to iOS 11.

We shall meet again in the New Year - but only just as our first meeting of 2018 will be on January 2nd.
