Bournemouth — Feb 19th 2013

The meeting opened with a presentation by Peter Shepheard on "Websites - The Weebly Way". The 15 attendees watched Peter prepare a new website live online using Weebly software Weebly website. He showed how easy it is to create an interesting and effective site using templates and drag and drop methods. Everything went smoothly right through to publishing the new site which was immediately seen on iPads in the audience. Peter edited various elements and showed how standard templates can be easily modified without needing any knowledge of html. A site can be free including domains and hosting, or you can upgrade to a 'pro' account for extra features. Peter showed his own site which he is developing Peter's site as well as a Weebly by another member Roy's Weebly. The presentation drew questions and discussion with some members referring to alternative site building options such as Freeway and WordPress. One such website shown in the audience is Trevor's

Peter gave the following links associated with his presentation: templates for Weebly, three hosting options option one,  option two and option three,  using colour on the web, and aspects of web site creation

After the coffee break we saw the film and slide scanner and copier, Film2SD, bought by WAMUG for the use of our members. It has done the rounds in Dorchester and is now in Bournemouth. Trevor Noyes told us how he had used it. While it may not meet professional standards it is an excellent device for archiving old family slides via an SD card onto computer quite speedily. Trevor stressed the need for careful cleaning of the slides before copying. (maker's description. and  a YouTube demo) Several members want to use the copier and arrangements were made for this to be passed around the group. See also discussion on the WAMUG website.

There was a short time for Qs and As with discussion on the iPhoto Library, moving files from a PC to a Mac and pre-viewing files locked in Mountain Lion.
