Salisbury — Apr 1st 2009

We covered quite a lot of ground this month. The first part of the meeting was taken up with connecting us all to the internet. The school's access has to go through a proxy server so we had to learn how to use this instead of the normal "straight through" we're used to at home. Now of course, we could enter these details each time we're at the meeting then delete them when we get home but instead we set up a new location so we can leave the setting intact and just change locations with a click of the mouse each time we need to.

Euan then showed us his prowess with a flight simulator. You had to be there! If nothing else, it demonstrated what fun you can have with your Mac and what a great community we have. Everyone entered into the spirit of the demo with impromptu impressions of flight attendants doing their pre-flight emergency drill and feigned air sickness as we bucked and weaved over mountains and lakes. Thankfully, we all survived the not infrequent crash landings. Euan did explain that it's much easier with a joy stick control but as he'd forgotten to bring it, he had to make do with the keyboard alternative. Once the projector had been turned off so it was not being broadcast to the rest of the attendees, there was no shortage of people wanting to have a go to see how they fared. I'd best not comment.

While the individual flying lessons were going on, the rest of us were going through problems and issues with the Macs that had been brought along or just showing each other interesting bits and pieces we'd found online or elsewhere.
