Checked: 1) Connections-ok. 2) Alternative USB port on iMac- made no difference. 3) Tried a restart on both iMac and My Book no joy there. 4) Reset Time machine settings - no joy. Have now run out of ideas other than a new drive. If that is the only solution does anyone know how to retrieve the info on defunct drive. By the way all my work is backed up on another volume. Does it have a separate power supply? In the meantime will use my back up drive to recover the important files and then purchase a new drive.
