      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">OK I know I go on about backups.... <xhtml:br/>
so if you have a usb drive or a disk drive attached to your mac when TM runs, it will grab the external volumes as well. - where can I fins a preference to turn off or remove the resulting volume images stored in the TM backup, because you aren't supposed to be able to delete those items without impacting the versioning..... any ideas anyone?<xhtml:br/>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Could you explain a bit - what do you mean by "grab the external volumes"? If you attach a drive (and TM isn't already configured) it will ask if you want to use that drive or one of the volumes on it if it's partitioned.</xhtml:div>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">It seems that TM will back up a mounted drive if it  runs when the new volume is mounted. I plugged in a 16 gb cf card full of images, but left it to do something else, and when I returned the TM had run and added the cf volume to the backup folder..... So how to recover the 16 gb space from my TM designated drive? Do I have to add the cf volume as an exclusion in the TM prefs ?</xhtml:div>

Yes, but not sure if you can now remove the already copied version from Time Machine.</xhtml:div>
