after any adjustment & locks up all the time. An additional trial is that<xhtml:br/>
the Force Quit option is useless in this situation: it can't be found<xhtml:br/>
because the lock-up has- well, - locked everything up. So, for the first<xhtml:br/>

THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT OPERATING SYSTEM PROGRESS!<xhtml:br/>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Greetings to Eire. As they are (reputed) to say over the water "if I was going there I wouldn't start from here".<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
I haven't heard of particular problems with iPhoto and Lion, although Lion converts iPhoto libraries to its preferred format before use -- make a backup! Something might have gone wrong with this conversion, possibly due to a pre-existing issue.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
If Disc Utility permissions repair doesn't help, and disc repair shows no problems, try Safe Boot (hold down the shift key at startup). Don't forget to restart 'normally' afterwards.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Try opening iPhoto with the Option key held down to create a new library. Populate that with a scattering of photos to see if all is well. There just might be one rogue image: so add them say, ten at a time, until you can find the little offender. Keeping iPhoto libraries reasonably sized and focussed helps here. Option start offers the choice of all your libraries.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Try creating a new User for testing (e.g. "Mr Clean") and try opening the offending file from there.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Other suggestions? See "The Big Cleanup" (22 Jul 2011) for starters. (I'll email you my bit so you can forward it).<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Beyond that Onyx -- from > www.titanium.free.fr < is terrific and won't harm your System. Always use the correct version for your OSX version - 3.4.1 for Lion. Onyx will clear his/her caches (clear all of them except Log files and Misc. if nothing else works).<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Clearing caches results in slow to very slow operation afterwards at first, while the caches are rebuilt in their new and hopefully clean state.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Your friend may need to chuck the offending library and revert to a backup, or rebuild it from scratch.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Lion is gorgeous and there aren't many glitches even at this early stage. 10.7.2 should clear most of those.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
The new and delightful Find option now finds 'housework' -- there is no longer any excuse -- thanks Chris!</xhtml:div>
