<xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">I need some help to help my ageing cousin in Wrexham.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
She is running OSX 10.4.11 on an iBook and has a Belkin [54g] wireless Router.<xhtml:br/>
She is anxious that her internet connection is without any security - her neighbors tell her they can see her signal. She is not clear if they can log on to it or not.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
I now have Leopard and can't remember how we might find out & am no longer able to dig around in my own machine to find out where the information is. <xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
Can anyone help me to advise her please?</xhtml:div>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">This is the router, not Tiger. But if she enables stealth mode in her firewall (on Tiger, System Preferences>Sharing) that won't hurt either. <xhtml:br/>
Like I said though, it's the router: she needs to start up her browser, go to the configuration page. On my Belkin 7633, and on my old 7630 before that, so it's probably the same for her, it's http://192.168.2.1. Over on the left are menu options. She wants to turn SSID off (that's how they can see her signal, if memory serves)- 'Channel and SSID' menu option, untick the checkbox for SSID. In Security, she should set up a password and security- WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK) for security mode, WPA2-PSK for security mode, and Pre-Shared Key (password) of her choice (assuming it's a recent model). And switch the router's firewall on if she hasn't done so. I rechecked this on my own setup, this is how I have it, so it should work for her.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
I didn't know much of this myself until there was a session on the topic at Fareham a while back- that was handy!</xhtml:div>
