      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">How long should it take to burn a 4GB DVD?<xhtml:br/>
It's currently taking me about 6 hours but I've got the distinct impression that it used to be quicker. There's oodles of hard drive space but a mere 4GBs of memory. (PowerPC G5)</xhtml:div>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">I've never used Toast but I wonder, are you just writing files to the DVD or is there extra processing involved? As an extreme example, if you burn a DVD from iDVD, it can spend several hours 'rendering assets' before the actual burn process even starts. Burning a second one from a disc image by contrast takes under an hour.</xhtml:div>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">They're films, Trevor, and most of the time is spent in 'encoding' the originals; which probably means converting the file into a different format. I usually burn two discs and the second one takes no time at all.</xhtml:div>
