For example any BBC sports page tennis or the world cup ... these pages will have at least one or maybe two or three vid clips embedded in the text ...and it's the time these clips take to load up so the page is navigable that I've noticed recently. So not "instantaneous". My guesses: Football interest has crashed (Roonie - what went wrong!) but the cyclists are hard at it still (masochists, as Mick would say). Server loadings and auto-opening (or not) of videos seem like candidates for blame. There's a chap with a computer company based in California which also makes phones. This is not significant as there are so many variables in play. (MacBook Intel 5,2 with early nVidia graphics card, 4mb Ram, Safari 5, MacOs 10.6.4 and good TalkTalk connection here, as I live about 300m of cable from the Exchange, and get around 16mb/sec) on TTs excellent and glitsch-free 20mb standard line offer -- thanks Mark!) Apart from net traffic (time of day and public interest), location (nearby Exchange is good), remember that browsers have to assemble the downloaded info to display it. This means that all the normal issues about free ram and disc space (15% is good) poor digital housekeeping, cleaning caches, fonts playing up and so forth may play a part in your experience. If this issue worries you, try doing a safe boot (hold down shift at the chime (and wait...) until the progress bar starts to creep across. Safari won't connect after this, but restart after you have logged in and things (may) have improved. Onyx will run in Safe Boot mode, and you may choose to check out bad preferences, and cleaning out more caches, etc. with it. I cured it by updating my adobe shockwave flash player today which has cured the problem.
