That's supposed to be a feature but it doesn't work too well. It sometimes recognizes my writing in Pages but usually doesn't & never in Mail. However I didn't buy it for that & don't feel inclined to use handwriting recognition. I would like to be able to draw things with the 'pen', including words, without them turning into typed text. Problem solved & will continue learning how to use the pen.
