      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">Following on from a reply to another of my questions, I see that Macupdate.com is a source of Mac apps. <xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
It seems impressive with its own installer running on  the mac.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
So, what is the catch?<xhtml:br/>
Is it adverts, and/or do they take a cut of all app sales?<xhtml:br/>
or is there a malware risk?</xhtml:div>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">They have been known to supply free extras with downloads (they were <xhtml:a href="https://blog.malwarebytes.com/threat-analysis/2018/02/new-mac-cryptominer-distributed-via-a-macupdate-hack/" target="blank">hacked a while ago</xhtml:a>). It might never happen again course but they are an attractive target.<xhtml:br/>

You are also increasing the number of software providers that you trust, does that balance the benefit gained?</xhtml:div>
