In System Preferences, is it possible to rearrange the icons in alphabetical order. I believe they were in alphabetical order in older machines but not in the newer models.</xhtml:div>

System preferences can be viewed in alpha order by going to its View menu, and clicking on "Organize Alphabetically".<xhtml:br/>
This is true in Yosemite, but I haven't checked for Mavericks, etc.</xhtml:div>

      <xhtml:div xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">The format and functions of the User Interface on the Mac are very consistent. So mostly any tricks you learn in one application can be also applied in another application. Assuming you are dealing with the same type of data.<xhtml:br/>
<xhtml:br/>
So if you find out how to do something in say Preview and you want to apply the same principles elsewhere give it a try - it will most probably work.</xhtml:div>
