My wife is using an old iBook G4 running Snow Leopard, which is the highest OS it can use. This suits her well as she only does emailing and the occasional web search. However I am moving on to El Capitan on my iMac, and today discovered that the iBook cannot access either of our printers (cable connected via our router) unless I reboot back into Snow Leopard. Is there any way in which the iBook can access the printers without my having to reboot?
May I clarify that your printers are networks devices (that is, they connect to Ethernet with their own IP addresses and do not use one of the Macs as a server)?
Have you changed any network settings (DHCP servers etc)? I presume that you haven't upgraded any printer firmware either.
Are there any error messages or diagnostics of any kind when the iBook fails to print?
All sorted thanks to Mick, Tony. It was because the printers are connected to the router via my iMac, while the iBook is direct to the router. Tsimple!
