Checking printer ink

Avatar Eric Jervis
Is there a simple way to keep count of the number of copies I print? (Apart from sticking a bit of paper on top of the printer and writing numbers on it). I ask because I bought a new black cartridge in January, and have today had to buy a new one, and I'm pretty damn sure the old one has not, as the suppliers claim it will, printed 600 A4 pages. Canon MG 3250, Mac Pro, Mountain Lion.

Ah but were they all pages with well spaced lettering in a nice fine font, printed in draft mode . . . . .?

I think manufacturers work to an estimated coverage of 5%. There's no way of working out how much of your page you cover with ink - unless you wanted to draw a filled black rectangle to be 5% of an A4 sheet and see how many copies you can print. But you wouldn't - would you? ;-)

It's OK lads, I've stuck a bit of paper on top of it, and it's quite surprising how many sheets I've printed already.
