Salisbury — Mar 4th 2009

Even though we had three or four regulars missing this month, we still had a pretty good attendance including Peter who has yet to buy his first ever computer (so won't be reading this!) Naturally, we were explaining why he'd be mad to buy anything other than a Mac.

Our Q&A session brought up among other things an ongoing problem with a dial-up modem which we'll try to fix "on site" and an issue with Numbers which was solved there and then. We're finding this a great way to find answers. For bigger issues, there's time after the demo to get together with someone who can help you, especially if you've brought your machine to show us what's wrong.

We then moved on to Barry's video session. iMovie 08 was not well received so Apple made v06 available as a free download to restore the missing functionality. As this has been incorporated (we think) into v09, Apple have removed the download. But Barry showed us how we could send our prepared movie from v08 into Garage Band to add chapter markers. I would never have thought of putting a movie into Garage Band, would you? But it works. From here, he sent it to iDVD and chose then customised one of the many themes Apple supply to end up ready for burning.
