Fareham — Sep 8th 2018

15 people were at the Fareham September meeting in which Euan Williams showed us a demonstration of the many facets of the app TextEdit which is only available on the MacOs platform.

He explained that TexEdit is so much more than a simple WordProcessor and not a cut down version of Pages and showed us that it has a lot of features when you explore it more.
Euan did a quick run through the major Menus and said that the Help menu is very useful if you get stuck on something.

He explained how you can Format text, Paste and Match Style, Make Plain Text. You can create Lists, add a Table, Paste Pictures, Annotate Pictures amongst other things.

You can put a Web page into TextEdit and see invisible text, you can also remove the background. You can see the HTML info.
You can collate several scans to make a bigger document, you can listen to the text in Edit/Speech to make it easier to proofread.

All in all, a lot more to it than at first glance.

After the break for drinks and biscuits we went into the usual Question and Answer session which included Mick showing us how to save files on the iPad and where to put them, David’s iPad was used to demonstrate saving to iCloud where they are then available to the Mac platform. We touched on some points on using Mail and other information useful on the iPad.

A useful tip from Mick on using the Mac was when you want to COPY files, you need to hold down the ALT key, then Copy, otherwise it MOVES files.
As usual, another useful session.
