Salisbury — Sep 3rd 2008

A busy meeting with a good attendance! I can't attribute that to the cakes that Jane had baked for me to take as nobody knew they were coming so it was either the attraction of a talk by Trevor Middleton of Mac Format magazine, the chance to see Roy Rainford's superb photos or maybe the excitement of our first AGM!

We went for the AGM first but the details of that will be in this week's email so I'll leave that to Terry. Roy was up next and he'd brought along some superb prints, talked us through a little of what he does to prepare images for sending to a stock photo library and finished off with an iPhoto slide show based around an Italian holiday (at least, I assume it was holiday, not work!) All in all, an inspiring talk which makes me want to get the camera out and have a go myself - if it ever stops raining that is.

Trevor Middleton had come all the way from Derby to talk to us and had to travel back the same night as he had an appointment at 8:30am the following day. There's dedication! He went through some of the applications that make up the iLife suite and following on from Roy's talk, started with iPhoto which most of us have at least dabbled with. Time was against us having an in depth look at Garageband but there was enough to suggest we should all have a go at exploring its capabilities. It was good to see a presentation by a full time Mac professional.

We finished off as usual at the local Italian restaurant, something which is now reasonably well established as part of the meeting and makes it a good social event as whilst there, not all talk is about Macs!

A very informative and entertaining evening. As it was our first time at the Salisbury venue, it was good to see how yet another venue works.

Full marks to the speakers and in Trevor's case, as fond as I am of Apple, I don't think I would travel down from Derby to give a talk and go back the same day.

A great turnout, that would surely have been even greater had members have known how yummy the cakes were.

Thanks to all involved.
