Bournemouth — Mar 18th 2008

Another good meeting turnout, and with a series of interesting presentations. The first from Neil Strudwick of MYOB showing the revised layout and ease of use of the latest Mac-friendly versions of this set of book-keeping programs. There was some good interest shown from the audience - and he didn't do too hard a sell. (He had been warned!)

After this two members, Jim Hayward and Mark Ford, gave presentations on digital photography - Jim showing the difference between photos taken with a camera phone and with a "proper" camera, and the subsequent ease of maniputaion of the images produced by the latter, while Mark showed a very interesting way of using the Comic Life application to make an illustrated instruction manual.

After a break for tea, coffee and biscuits, Mick Burrell gave one of his most professional presentations - already shown at Lytchett of course, but well worth seeing again, on using Garageband to create a presentation with music and speech as well as illustrations, all beautifully synchronised.

The transfer to the Italian restaurant nearby for coffees and food for those in need is now a well-established part of the meting - and a very pleasant social end to the evening.

The presentation by Mick on Garageband was an 'eye-opener' for me since I have been ignoring it, thinking that I didn't have a use for it. I now hope to try Garageband when time permits. This type of clear & concise presentation is I suggest what would be of interest & useful in future meetings.

As one who has never used Garageband and never even downloaded a podcast, I found the Garageband presentation doubly informative! Up until now I have tended to document my model aircraft builds in standard html form - see for example: http://tinyurl.com/2jlux7 and, since getting iWeb as part of a recent iLife / Leopard update, have been experimenting with simple photodiaries - see: http://tinyurl.com/2jvxtu

Following Mick's excellent talk though, I have even managed a simple podcast episode - see: http://tinyurl.com/2sl88c

So many different formats to choose from!
