Bournemouth — Dec 10th 2012

Attendance was again good (15) in spite of the low temperature outside. The usual Q & A opening brought discussion on Mail threads, opening the BBC website, removing outdated email addresses, using autofill in Safari for email addresses, upgrading to Mountain Lion and using the Trackpad.

Alan opened his talk about iMovie '11, starting by showing a newish feature called Trailers in which you choose bits of your video clips for Apple to use to make a short video with all the bells and whistles of a pukka movie trailer – fun but little more. Then, having taken a number of short video clips in the Solutions shop, he showed how to import them into the Events section of iMovie via iPhoto. Selected pieces of these clips were then chosen by 'skimming' and used to create a video in the Projects Library where editing is done with transitions, titles and audio. Blending the 3 audio tracks – the original in the clips, music and voice over – proved nightmarish despite lots of constructive suggestions from many members! Alan strongly recommended "iMovie, the missing manual" by David Pogue which contains a mass of useful advice including how to end up with an acceptable sound track. He showed how the result could be 'shared' as a stand alone video on the Desktop or uploaded to, for example, YouTube.

After the coffee break Roy showed his new photo blog Roy's Blog and gave the main points such as having a theme with regular postings and devoting time and effort to it. Google 'Blogger' Google's blog app was used for the design and  Roy highlighted the way that blogs can be customised on the 'Dashboard' feature and members gave helpful comments on the placement of images..  With his interest in photography Roy aims to network with other photographers and also link to his other online portfolios Landscapes portfolio  and Rainford portfolio.  We had a brief look at some of his images which elicited many expressions of admiration as well as a few questions on photographic technique before the close.
